The Most Popular Boxing Championships and Tournaments To Bet On
Almost all fights share basic conditions: there are 17 weight divisions and fights last for up to 12 rounds. The most famous and major boxing leagues and tournaments are professional fights within the World Series Boxing (WSB) tournament. Amateur league professional boxers retain the right to compete in both the Olympics and other amateur tournaments.
It is worth mentioning such professional championships as the World Boxing Association (WBA), International Boxing Federation (IBF), World Boxing Organization tournaments (WBO), as well as many other local organizations and leagues.
In terms of boxers, there are certainly some legendary names out there that will ring a bell – Muhammed Ali, Mike Tyson, and others. Not so long ago, we were holding our breath when betting on our own Latvian boxing star, Mairis Briedis, who, in the first semi-finals of the heavyweight division of the World Boxing Super Series, confronted the Ukrainian Oleksandr Usyk.
Boxing Fight Schedule
A boxing fight schedule and its planning differ from other sports. There is no set timetable to follow for boxing fights within a calendar year. Boxers tend to agree on individual fights, often a few months in advance. Of course, that does not necessarily affect the consistency of boxing events, because there will always be an upcoming fight in one of the tournaments or weight classes.
Types of Boxing Bets
Recently, boxing betting has also become very popular among Latvia's best totalisators, primarily thanks to our Mairis Briedis’ fights and achievements in boxing. The most popular boxing bets are predictions about the outcome of a fight, the number of rounds and how a fight will end.
At first glance it may seem that boxing betting and its strategy are quite straightforward – there is a favorite boxer, and an underdog, so betting lines are obvious. But do not jump to conclusions! Bookmakers would not offer boxing bets if they were so predictable and simple.
Boxing is one of the most dynamic sports. Full of fast moves and powerful punches, it will keep you on your toes. Thanks to the possibility of placing bets in boxing, you have a chance to experience boxing fights on a completely different level. If you know how to leverage your knowledge, you might get your hands on some impressive winnings.
When placing bets in boxing, consider various aspects, and analyze individual boxer parameters – technique, tactics and weight. It is also useful to assess each boxer’s motivation and, if possible, personal circumstances, since boxing, as you may know, is not just a physical but also a psychological sport.
Type of bet | Description |
---|---|
✅ Boxing fight winner | A bet on the outcome of a boxing match. |
✅ Total rounds | Predict whether a bout will finish before or after a certain number of rounds. |
✅ Bet on the outcome of a fight | How a fight will end, e.g. with a knockout or a technical knockout. |
✅ Live boxing bets | Betting during a live broadcast. |
✅ Accumulator bets | Can bet on multiple events, e.g. winner or the outcome of a fight. |
Boxing Match Winner
As with any other sport, this is also the most popular tote board bet in boxing. There is always a winner and a loser in a boxing fight, and only very rarely do bookmakers add a betting line for a draw.
It may seem that bets on the outcome of a boxing fight are straightforward. Normally, there is an obvious favourite and an “underdog”, i.e. a weaker opponent that is expected to lose. However, betting bookmakers tend to lower the odds of the favourites while at the same increasing them for the weaker opponents.
Total Rounds
Total round bets in boxing are also popular, however, their operating principles slightly differ from other sports. Instead of predicting whether the end result will be over/under the specified score, you need to predict whether a bout will finish before or after a certain number of rounds.
Professional boxing typically consists of 12 rounds, each lasting 3 minutes, with a break of 60 seconds between each. The duration of an amateur boxing round is the same, however, there are no more than 3 rounds in one fight. Consequently, total round betting is popular in professional boxing, and not so much in amateur.
Boxing round betting can relate to backing a winner for each of the rounds, as well as predicting the number of rounds in a given boxing match. If a boxer is infamous for ending a fight with a knockout, it is highly unlikely that a fight will last for up to 12 rounds.
Fight Outcome Betting
The most popular boxing bet is on the outcome of a match. Bookmakers all over the world offer this boxing bet. In essence, this bet predicts a winner or a draw. Draw bets are extremely rare online.
Boxing bets on the outcome have their own types of wagers. There are many ways in which a boxer can win.
Boxing fights can end in the following ways:
- Knockout;
- Technical knockout;
- Disqualification of an opponent;
- Refusing to continue a fight;
- Winner by points;
- Win on a technical decision by judges.
In order to excel at online boxing betting, you have to take into account the specifics of this type of sport. You should only place boxing bets on the fights for which you have enough information.
Look for interviews with fighters and coaches, watch sparring, workouts, and gather information – all of this will positively affect your boxing betting. Read more here.
For this type of boxing betting, it is also worth researching bookmaker forecasts to understand how they assessed the end of the fight in question – this will help to navigate better and choose wisely.
Knockout
A knockout is a fight-ending which is declared if a boxer is unable to keep fighting within a referee’s ten-second count.
Technical Knockout
Technical knockout or stoppage is declared when a referee decides that the continuation of a fight is not safe for any reason. In many regions, a technical knockout is declared if a boxer is knocked down three times in one round.
The main difference between a knockout and a technical knockout is that in the latter the boxer is not unconscious. Injuries such as fractures, cuts or other circumstances prevent continued fighting, so the fight is terminated and a technical knockout is declared.
Disqualification of an Opponent
Disqualification is declared if a violation preventing continued fighting is detected, or several offences, resulting in a boxer being injured.
A disqualification decision may be taken if:
- Boxer exhibits particularly egregious conduct, in which case the opponent wins;
- Boxer receives three warnings resulting in automatic disqualification;
- Both boxers have been disqualified, both lose;
- Boxer is disqualified for misconduct; the opponent wins, the infringer will be punished.
Refusing to cContinue a Fight
Refusing to continue is a boxer’s unwillingness to continue the fight. The boxer may voluntarily leave the ring due to the obvious superiority of their opponent and unwillingness to expose their health to the obvious risks of the fight, or refuse to come out of their corner after the bell rings. The referee declares the end of the fight when a towel is thrown into the ring, or one of the coaches enters the ring. It may be that the boxer has suffered injuries. In such cases, the opponent is declared a winner.
Winner by Points
In boxing knockouts are not the only way to win a fight, sometimes the same class opponents can last for the entire 8, 10 or 12 rounds in the ring, in which case a higher overall score determines a winner.
Winning by points in boxing is a victory that one boxer gains thanks to a larger number of accurately executed punches. This is determined by the judges outside of the ring. Throughout the fight, they carefully follow the actions of the boxers and count every punch hit in the opponent’s vulnerable torso. Professional boxers also take into account the power of a punch, for instance, three weak punches are classed as one hard punch.
Win by a Technical Decision of Judges
Technical decision is a term used in boxing when a fight needs to be stopped because of an accidental headbutt.
In boxing fights, the judges must pay close attention to what is going on between the boxers, especially when two boxers fight close to each other. That is because, if an injury is sustained, the judges have to decide whether the injury was caused by a punch with a hand or a headbutt. This decision may only be taken by a judge.
If the judge decides that the injury was caused by a punch, the opponent wins with a technical knockout. If the judge decides that this has occurred as a result of a collision, the judges must hand over their scores, and the boxer who gets more points wins by a technical decision.
Live Boxing Bets
If you prefer to place bets in real-time during a boxing match, then you should try out live boxing bets.
Bookmakers offer to predict the winner of the rounds and the outcome at specific round intervals. For example, whether any of the boxers will win a round between Round 2 and Round 3. In such cases, it is easier to place live bets while following a live broadcast of a boxing match. To achieve the desired result, choose the narrowest interval, thereby minimizing risks and increasing the excitement.
Accumulator Bets in Boxing
With this bet, you are able to predict both the winner of a boxing fight and the way the fight will end. These bets are famous for tempting odds, but consequently, the risk is also higher.
These bets allow you to combine bets on multiple events. Keep in mind that once the bet is lost, the whole combined bet will be lost. A combined bet has its pros and cons. The advantage is that you have an opportunity to get a big payout if all bets win, but if one of your selections loses – the bet as a whole loses.

Pros and Cons of Boxing Betting
Betting on boxing is becoming more and more popular, and this comes with both its advantages and disadvantages. For those who want to earn money, betting on boxing offers the opportunity to earn well, because the statistics and data offered by almost every online bookmaker today allow bettors to make informed decisions about the odds of each fight. However, there are risks associated with this type of betting. The unpredictability of each match means that it can be difficult to accurately predict the actual winners or losers. Additionally, comparing different wrestlers is complicated by their different weight classes, fitness levels, and other factors. For those considering betting on these matches, it is important to carefully weigh all potential risks and rewards before making a decision.
✅ Pros | |
---|---|
Development of the sport | Many believe that the extra money invested in the sport of boxing is an advantage in certain types of betting such as boxing and mixed martial arts. An increase in funds for a particular activity often means more opportunities for bettors to participate and profit. With more funds, boxing and combat sports organizations can better pay their fighters, attract more competitors and improve the overall quality of competition. |
Watching the fights becomes more exciting | Betting on boxing matches can be an exciting way to diversify fighting experience for martial arts fans. Not only does this add an exciting thrill to the fight, but it can also bring financial benefits. |
Boxing is an individual sport | Since the competition is one-on-one, your only task is to accurately determine the winner and profit! Boxing has its own unique array of strategies and outcome variables that can increase betting interest as well as create new ways to potentially win. |
Special bonuses | Online bookies often offer special bonuses and promotions before big fights, which is another reason to get into boxing betting. Seeing a promotion offer when you start playing can really help break down the initial barrier of not knowing enough about boxing or betting, and provide first-time bonus offers that can increase your potential profits. Boxing online is exciting and convenient, making it a smart choice for those who want to make money with their favorite sport. |
❌ Cons | |
---|---|
Unpredictability | Betting on boxing can be a tricky business because despite the fact that the favorite has the advantage in terms of skill and fitness, it can often be the smallest detail that can throw him off. An unfortunate slip or accurate shot can put an athlete at a momentary disadvantage, known as a knockout, and give the opponent an opportunity to win against all odds. This is especially true in amateur fights where the level of skill can be so erratic; an experienced fighter can easily beat an unskilled fighter with one knockout, making predictions extremely difficult and risking your betting money. |
Disputed decisions of judges | Referee scandals are a reality of the boxing world and something to be aware of when planning to bet. Despite the popularity and entertainment value of professional boxing matches, there is always a real risk that outside forces can manipulate the results of matches. This means that those who are used to relying on research and statistics when choosing their bet may not be completely immune to refereeing errors. |

If tough knockout boxers are involved, there may not be that many rounds in a match. If we are talking about lightweight fighters with not the most powerful punches, you can expect a long fight.
Boxing bets on how a fight will conclude.
A boxing fight can end in several ways: with a knockout win, technical knockout, an opponent’s disqualification, an opponent’s refusal to continue fighting, victory by points or with a technical decision. In this category of boxing betting, it is also worth exploring the rules of bookmakers and their predictions in relation to the outcome of a fight.

Other Popular Martial Arts to Bet On
Besides boxing, you can find other popular martial art bets online. You can view available options on a corresponding tote board. MMA is essentially a combination of the following disciplines:
- Kickboxing;
- Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu;
- Capoeira;
MMA
MMA is one of the most dynamic, heavy and sometimes brutal martial arts. And although it is too early for it to compete with boxing in terms of popularity, every year more and more people express interest in this type of sport.
Kickboxing
Kickboxing combines a variety of martial arts: karate, taekwondo, Thai and English boxing. It includes punches with hands and legs, opponents are allowed to strike each other with punches in any part of the body. Generally, authentic kickboxing is practised barefoot.
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu
Brasilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) is a martial art. It focuses on the ability to control the opponent, using techniques that force them to surrender. BJJ’s literal translation is “gentle art” as it allows a smaller, weaker person to use techniques (chokes, blocking) to protect themselves against a bigger opponent.
Capoeira
Capoeira is an Afro-Brazilian martial art. It originated in Africa and was developed by African slaves in Brazil. One of the most popular theories is that since slaves were banned from practising martial arts, they disguised capoeira as a dance.
Frequently Asked Questions
It means a money line. In a fight, there will usually be a favourite and an underdog. If you bet on an underdog, there will always be a “+” sign, and if you win, you will get more than you bet. Let’s take a fight between Floyd Mayweather and Mike Tyson, as an example. If you bet €10 on Vinnie with a money line of +120, your return will be €12. +120 means that for every €1 you bet, you win €1.20.
While many try to compare and choose in favor of one of these sports, it cannot be argued that one of them is more favorable in terms of bets than the other. Each has its own nuances, for example, MMA is less traumatic than boxing, which means that you do not have to worry too much about the possibility of a sudden end or unplanned outcome due to an injury. In boxing, on the other hand, you can safely bet on winners due to more pronounced leaders and tempting odds.
Yes, you can make a profit. If your bet is successful, you will get a chance to get some good money. Please bear in mind though, that this is not guaranteed, and you cannot always get lucky. Betting should be responsible, bearing in mind that sports betting is not a source of profit but a form of entertainment. However, by working on your skills and financial strategy, you might be better off in the long term and you will certainly be more likely to earn a profit.
You will need to research totalisators and their reviews, where experts compare such aspects as deposits and payouts, betting bonuses, betting odds and other differences. After that, you just need to choose a place that offers the best boxing bets and other important criteria.
